Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle in Slovenia

On our way to Trieste, Italy from Bled, Slovenia we decided to stop at Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle.

When we arrived to Postojna Cave, we purchased tickets to see the caves as well as the aquarium with cave creatures and then tickets to see Predjama Castle and it's cave underneath. Needless to say, it was a very full day of fun.

The Postojna Cave is a cave systems that is 20km long. We toured about 3.7km of it and it was just gorgeous. All I kept thinking was "Wow, God is awesome!!"

Since you are not allowed to take pictures in the caves, I am posting pictures I found online. We actually followed those rules unlike a ton of other tourists (it was quite annoying). If you would like to read about Postojna Cave, go HERE. Here is what it looked like. It was breathtaking.

Inside the caves are many different types of cave animals. We got to see a whole bunch of bugs and slimy creatures in the Aquarium right outside of the caves. One such animal is the Olm, which is a blind salamander type animal that lives in the water in the caves. It is the largest trogloditic amphibian in the world (whatever that means!). They are pretty gross looking (so Mom, keep scrolling!!).

After visiting the caves, we were off to Predjama Castle, which was really cool. It is a castle that was built inside the mouth of a cave. It also contains secret passageways leading outside the top of the cave, which was a place to store food and retreat if necessary. To read more about it's history, click HERE.

Here are some of the pictures that Jason took. Pictures don't even seem to do it justice!

Overall, our adventure to Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle was a huge success. It sure was a fun day of exploring! xx
