Day Trip to Großglocknerstraße

Last Sunday before we left for Istanbul, Jason and I took a day trip to Großglocknerstraße. I read about it online and wanted to visit before the road was closed in November. It was so gorgeous!!

Grossglockner is not only the highest mountain in Austria, it also counts among the highest peaks in the Alps. It is about 1 1/2 hours away from us. Grossglocknerstrasse (the road)  is the most famous alpine road which leads into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, to the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner (3,798m) and its glacier, the Pasterze. To check out the website, feel free to check it out here.

Jason took some pretty amazing pictures on his camera. It's a shame that I don't have them on my computer yet. I will make him post them on his website though.

For now, here are some of the pictures I took from my iPhone. For those wondering, the pictures were taken from my iPhone app called Hipstamatic. If you don't have it, it is totally worth the $.99.

It was such a lovely day! It was so wonderful to spend the day in the car talking to Jason and admiring the beauty of the Austrian Alps. I sure do love it here!!

Jessica and Hutto's Visit- Part 2

The next stop on our trip was Prague. Being a huge fan of airbnb.com, I had booked an apartment and we had a cozy place to stay right in the center of town.

When we first arrived, I took Jessica and Hutto see St. Charles' Bridge, the Lennon Wall, the Love Locks and the Toy Museum. Afterwards, we immediately went up to Castle Hill. It was gorgeous! The best part was, we happened to stumble upon a wine festival on our way down. It was amazing and we had a spectacular view of the city. We tried various wines and had a blast.

After the wine festival, we walked around the city, went to dinner and then went to a local pub. The night ended pretty early, considering we started drinking around 4pm. It was so much fun!!

The next day, our plan was to go visit the Jewish Quarter. With our luck though, it was a Jewish holiday and everything was closed. We settle with a paddle boat ride on the river and then explored more of the city. Then, I went to get a massage while Jessica and Hutto had a date. This was followed by a dinner that was way too expensive for what we got.

The next morning, we had to leave Prague and head back to Salzburg. On the way home, we stopped in a lovely town called Cesky Kromlov. This was after the parking nightmare we endured as we were trying to leave our apartment. Long story short, I was parked in a space and blocked in by 4 vehicles. We finally got everyone to move and then I was stuck and couldn't get out because the spot was so narrow and I couldn't make it out of the parking garage. Two different guys got in my car and helped me maneuver and about 20 minutes later, we were finally out of the garage. Hutto of course took a picture when I thought I was going to have a heart attack. By the way, the guys ended up bumping into the wall twice and another vehicle. Thank God there was no damage done!

When we finally got back to Salzburg, it was our last night before I took Jessica and Hutto to the airport the following morning. We went out for one last hoorah!

I had a wonderful time with Jessica and Hutto while they were visiting. I'm so sad their trip has already come and gone but I will never forget the memories we made together. I can't wait until they come visit again!! xx

Jessica and Hutto's Visit- Part 1

The rest of Jessica and Hutto's visit was amazing! We went from Munich to Salzburg then to Prague then back to Salzburg and then to Munich. Phew! Talk about a lot of travel in 8 days!

Although we had a blast the whole trip, here are some notable moments.

In Munich, our first stop was Hofbräuhaus (even before Oktoberfest). This is where Jessica and Hutto got a little taste of the fabulous beer and pretzels that Munich has to offer. We also got to see Shrek, but's that's a whole other story. ;)

In Salzburg, we made it to the last day of Der Rupertikirtag, which is a festival in Old Town Salzburg. There were tons of games, food stands, and of course a large beer tent set up. This is where we continued our Oktoberfest partying.

The next day, we woke up bright and early and were off to St. Gilgen where we enjoyed some yummy pizza while taking in the gorgeous view. Then on the way home, we stopped to go to tobogganing and then to the top of Geisburg. It was a very successful day!

While in Salzburg, I also took them to Mirabell Garden. They were in the middle of swapping out flowers but it was still as gorgeous as ever! Then, we were off to the castle and the Hotel Stein at sunset. Then to top it all off (as if it could get any better), we stopped for the best pizza in Salzburg. Life here never gets old! :)
